HOCPY Ghana Empowers Young Girls Through Media Training in Tamale

In a bright room buzzing with excitement and curiosity, young girls from across Tamale gathered to learn how to make their voices heard. It wasn’t just another training, it was a chance to change the narrative.

The Hope for Children, Power for the Youth Ghana (HOCPY Ghana) recently organized a free media training workshop designed to help girls discover the power of their stories. Through hands-on sessions in digital storytelling, media production, and advocacy, participants explored how to use media not just to speak, but to influence, inspire, and lead.

For many of the girls, it was their first time holding a camera or drafting a story meant for the public. Yet by the end of the workshop, confidence filled the room. The message was clear: their voices matter.

“When girls are empowered with knowledge and confidence, they become powerful agents of change,” said Ibrahim Alhassan, a facilitator. “We want them to own their stories and use them to push for the change they deserve.”

HOCPY Ghana believes that girls are often underrepresented in media spaces. Their experiences are told for them, not by them. HOCPY’s initiative seeks to change that by equipping young women with digital tools and critical thinking skills nurturing a new generation of bold, informed, and articulate leaders who can speak for themselves.

The organization believes that amplifying girls’ voices through media is more than training, it’s transformation. Every story told is a statement of courage, and every girl who learns to tell hers becomes a light in her community.
